Early Farm Years — The Paumel Family Dairy Barn

The barn's earliest known use was as a dairy barn for the homesteading Paumel family.

It was built as part of their working farmstead during the early agricultural history of the Upper Green River Valley.

Metzler Family — Green River Blueberry Farm

The barn later became a general-purpose farm building used by the Metzler family as they built and operated Green River Blueberry Farm.

It provided space for:

  • Blueberry farming equipment
  • A hen house
  • Milking the family's cows
  • General farm storage and activities

The building's history is closely connected to the region's agricultural and blueberry farming heritage.

1980s — A King County Fire Station

In the 1980s, the historic barn served an entirely different purpose.

It became a temporary fire station for the King County District 46 backup fire truck, giving this old farm building another important role in the local community.
